Founder - Compassion Couch
Dr Muhammad Shameel Khan
Dr. Shameel Khan is a consultant psychiatrist by profession and founder of compassion couch psychiatry & therapy clinic, Karachi. he is a graduate of Dow medical college and undertook post-graduate specialization in psychiatry from England, UK. He did his specialist training in psychiatry from Cambridge and east of England deanery. he has a masters in psychodynamic psychotherapy from tavis tock and portman nhs trust/university of essex. he also holds a post-graduate diploma in group work from the institute of group analysis, UK as well as a post-graduate certificate in medical leadership from birbeck college, university of London. he is a credentialed balint group leader with the Balint society, UK, and also the chair of the balint strategy group, Pakistan. in his previous job as assistant professor at Aga Khan university, he also served as post-graduate training program director for psychiatry.
His clinical experience includes both outpatients as well as inpatient work within the diverse contextual frameworks of both the UK and Pakistan. due to his background in Psychodynamics and group work, he has a special interest in personality difficulties, treatment of resistant depression, eating disorders, and addictions. he has experience in delivering ECT and has served as part of the ECT consultant team in the UK as well as in Pakistan. he has also worked closely with oncology services at AKU, undertaking psychiatric assessments and treatment of patients suffering from Cancer. he has also co-led support groups for people with eating disorders in north London as well as piloted depression/anxiety support groups for patients at Aga Khan university hospital, Karachi, Pakistan.

Dr Humera Saeed
Dr Humera Saeed is a co-founder and director of Compassion Couch Psychiatry and Therapy Clinic. An Adult and Geriatric Consultant Psychiatrist by profession, she graduated from DOW and has undertaken specialist training in psychiatry in England. She has worked in specialist units in dementia and has her primary expertise in managing mental health conditions within the elderly. Her speciality also includes mood disorders, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, substance use disorders, adult ADHD, perinatal disorders and psycho-oncology.
Dr Humera has previously worked as part of a multidisciplinary clinic at AKU to provide psychiatric treatment to patients with neurological disorders. She has experience in liaison psychiatry, including working with people diagnosed with cancer and women with pregnancy-related complications. She also has experience in delivering ECT and has served as part of an ECT Consultant team in UK as well as in Pakistan. In addition to her psychiatric work, she also had training in psychotherapy and has been active in academic teaching. She has been the director of Compassion Couch’s internship programme since its inception.
She is also a co-founder and director of the Synapse Neuroscience Institute and an accredited Balint group leader.

Internship Program
Compassion Couch Internship Program
At Compassion Couch, we are proud to offer a dynamic 6-week internship program designed for individuals passionate about mental health and seeking hands-on experience in the field. Our program is structured to provide interns with a comprehensive understanding of clinical psychology practices within a supportive and nurturing environment.
Interns will have the chance to observe therapy sessions conducted by our experienced professionals. This experience offers valuable insights into therapeutic techniques and client-therapist interactions.
To broaden their understanding of mental health care in different settings, interns will participate in field visits to various mental health facilities and community organizations.
A series of lectures delivered by our team of experts will cover a range of topics in psychology, therapy practices, and mental health advocacy. These sessions are designed to enrich the interns' knowledge and understanding of the field.
Under supervision, interns will have the opportunity to interact directly with clients during initial screenings. This hands-on experience is crucial for developing assessment and communication skills.
